Borderline Personality Disorder

Diagnoses of BPO are based on three categories of criteria. The first, and most important, category, comprises two signs:
the absence of psychosis (i.e., the ability to perceive reality accurately)
impaired ego integration - a diffuse and internally contradictory concept of self. Kernberg is quoted as saying, "Borderlines can describe themselves for five hours without your getting a realistic picture of what they're like."
The second category is termed "nonspecific signs" and includes such things as low anxiety tolerance, poor impulse control, and an undeveloped or poor ability to enjoy work or hobbies in a meaningful way.

Psychiatric Diagnoses are categorized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th. Edition. Better known as the DSM-IV

Think is a disorganization of individuals discomfortable with modern society. Individuals offended by the notion that humans aren't treated much better than any other 'resource' and our planet is only as good its petroleum reserves. Individuals who take exception to the notion that the right to vote equals equality and that a growing economy equals progress. Individuals who think a world where governments were accountable to their actions and people were nicer to each other is, at the very least, desirable.

We Love Arnold

"It is the biggest political story in the country? That's interesting. That says a lot. That speaks volumes. Oh, I think there's maybe other political stories. Isn't there, like a presidential race coming up?" - President George W. Bush.

"I will never arm-wrestle Arnold Schwarzenneger." - President George W. Bush.

"I have known Arnold for years and know he'll be a great governor. It is critical to the rest of the nation that California's economic crisis be solved, and I think Arnold will get that job done." - Warren Buffett

"He's like the golem. All these Jewish Democratic studio people created this Terminator which has conquered the world for them, just like the golem, created by Jews in Prague in the Middle Ages. The golem was bigger and stronger than normal mortals. And once they woke him up, he controlled those who created him. He has a life of his own, he's uncontrollable, and he's the Republican candidate. Now all these left-wing liberals are biting their lips and saying: What did we create?"
- Ludi Boeken, movie producer.

I had no idea that Golem was a Jewish legend.

Dictionary of Philosophy of Mind - materialism

Materialism is a general view about what actually exists. Put bluntly, the view is just this: Everything that actually exists is material, or physical. Many philosophers and scientists now use the terms `material' and `physical' interchangeably (for a version of physicalism distinct from materialism, see physicalism). Characterized in this way, as a doctrine about what exists, materialism is an ontological, or a metaphysical, view; it is not just an epistemological view about how we know or just a semantic view about the meaning of terms.

Stability and Free Will

Does our sense of free will depend a lot on the static nature of ourselves. I mean, we don't change much when we're older and as a result, we can make decsions based on facts about our accumulated behavior. If we were dynamic, constantly changing point of views from one day to the next, our decisions would be rendered useless because we don't know how we'll view them in the future and what not. Okay this is a lame post.
