philosophistry

Imagined conversation between me and the fictional love of my life.

Strolling home, after dinner. This is the fantasy that percolates in me (I am the Chairman, she is Sayuri):

I maunder through the doors of Borders, whence I am accosted by a hill of Tom Wolfe's new book I am Charolette Simmons. Out of respect for Mr. Wolfe's reputation, I scan in some pages.

Then this belle of half-japanese/half-white descent scoots right next to me and peruses the same book. We exchange flirtatious glances.

Chairman (me): Excuse me, but has anybody said you have a lot of water in your features?
Sayuri (her): That's a good book.
Chairman: Which, Tom Wolfe's or Memoirs of a Geisha? (that's where the water reference's from)
Sayuri: both.
Sayuri: Do you want to get married?
Chairman: Yes.
Sayuri: Why?
Chairman: Your good looks are enough to make me fall in love with you, and so your personality will probably be icing on the cake.
Sayuri: I wish I could say the same for you.
Chairman: Do you want to get Pearl Milk Tea or something?
Sayuri: sure.

BTW, I haven't read Charolette Simmons yet. It's 627+ pages, and I'm not going to spend a week of my life on something unless I'm sure it's going to be worth it. Plus, I'd probably want to scope out some his other books: The Bonfire of the Vanities or The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
