UNLIKE PHILOSOPHERS, who are are hungry for truth, philosophists are hungry for understanding; comprehension rarely comes in neat logical packages, and so instead, we seek increasing resolutions of descriptiveness.
Another tenet of philosophistry is self-effacing confession. For example, I position philosophistry in contradiction to philosophy, partly because I have no formal training in philosophy. Statements like this, particularly of my biases, are examples of full-disclosure, something lacking in intellectual discourse.
Other than that, this site is the stomping ground for my intellectual passions and Dadaist insight.
Philosophistry over time
Philosophistry has been around since March of 2003; read the first post.
I assign colors to my posts now, as you can tell by all the colored bars. One result is a colorful abstract representation, or evolution of this site (130KB).
Old Designs:
0 - green, Blogger.com template (Mar. '03)
1 - anime Strongbad, flash-heavy look (May)
2 - colored bar, and flash chat (July)
4 - blogroll revolver, and the girl, Movable Type (Aug.)
5 - blogfabric, condensed (Sept.)
6 - blogfabric++, shiny (Oct.)
7 - full blogfabric, and sidebar (Dec.)
8 - huge, map-like layout (Jan. '04)
Why are there ads on Philosophistry? I bought extra bandwidth to serve my site's traffic. Also, I don't think I could profit from freelance-writing on my passions; running a one-man, ad-supported magazine is therefore the next best alternative. Plus, adWords and Amazon books are context-sensitive, and therefore usually complement the discussion well.
